JDRF JDRF has been established in the United States in 1970 by parents of children with T1D. The organisation has grown into the leading charity T1D-organisation. JDRF has financed over 1,7 billion dollar worth of T1D research in around 27 countries. The organisation has contributed to nearly all scientific progress in the field of this disease. JDRF was established in the Netherlands in the end of 2010.What is Type 1 Diabetes? T1D is an autoimmune disease with lifelong serious consequences. When suffering from T1D, the body stops producing insulin, which prevents the level of glucose in the blood from being controlled. Serious complications such as heart, eye and kidney disorders, nerve damages and strokes are a possible result. As long there has not been found a solution, people with T1D need to constantly monitor the level of glucose in their blood, and inject themselves with insulin multiple times a day, or carry around an insulin pump 24/7, every single day. T1D is a completely different disease than type 2 diabetes. JDRF is totally focussed on finding a cure for T1D.Type 1 Diabetes, the numbers
